Fire Pump Room System
The fire pump, an essential component of a fire sprinkler system's water
supply, is powered by electric, diesel, or occasionally a steam turbine,
and serves the vital function of drawing water from either the public
underground water supply piping or a static water source such as a tank,
reservoir, or lake, subsequently providing water flow at a higher
pressure to the sprinkler system, rise standpipes, and other firefighting
connections. Operating with the assistance of an electric motor, diesel
engine, or steam turbine, the fire pump activates automatically when the
pressure within the fire sprinkler system drops below a designated
threshold, which occurs when one or more fire sprinklers are exposed to
heat beyond their design temperature, causing them to open and release
water, or when other firefighting connections like fire hose reels are
opened, resulting in a pressure drop in the fire fighting main.
